Communications support and $25,000 donation to Red Cross for disaster relief efforts
MONTREAL, July 7, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - With support for the Red Cross and on-site communications, Bell is assisting the people of Lac˗Mégantic following the train disaster of early Saturday:
Bell has donated $25,000 to support Red Cross relief efforts in Lac-Mégantic, which is about 200 kilometres east of Montréal. All mobile phone users across Canada can also donate $5 to the Red Cross to support relief efforts by texting ROUGE or REDCROSS to 30333.
The Red Cross has deployed a 16-metre (53-foot) emergency response trailer previously donated by Bell. The vehicle has already transported supplies including beds, pillows and blankets to support an emergency shelter for displaced residents.
To keep emergency workers and residents connected, Bell has donated mobile phones, landlines, Wi-Fi and free payphone service for the shelter.
The Bell team would like to thank our field technicians, network staff and emergency management team for undertaking emergency support and maintaining operations at the local Bell Central Office.
